Trading a 20 point utility player with a 3.5 cap hit and no retention would certainly be wishful thinking

Expiring contract, still scores double-digit goals most years, has played both ends of special teams in his career and was actually pretty good in his role last year. Flyers could find a taker.

Totally agree. With some of the contracts given in free agency for dmen, I would think 3 years of AMac with some salary retained would have value also.

The only reason to sign Markov is to mentor provorov. As it stands i dont think this is a playoff team.Goalie situation is worse than last year.Big question marks on D.If Giroux and Voracek play like last year no way this team makes it.I think they will be picking in the 10-12 range again next year.Of course this could change if the young kids perform and ghost is back to rookie ghost.Giroux and Voracek need to play like 8 million dollar players.

As with every year my spirits are high, a boy can always dream. Cup team nope, playoff team hopefully. One step at a time. Concerned about which players step up to fill in Schenn's goals. Jake needs to bring it this season.

If they can bring in a veteran d man to help mentor need bad, but may not be so easily workable.

If Hextall can turn 3 years of AMac into 2 years, or even better 1 year of Markov and he says see ya to Matt Read in the same move, then he's well on his way to his hall of fame enshrinement

Markov would be a good mentor to all the young Dman on this team not just Provorov. He has been a solid long time pro.
Obviously the trick is getting rid of AMac and or Read. God Bless you Ron of you can get this done

Only time will tell the outcome of the selection of Frost. My biggest issue with drafting Frost is the pick came from the trade of Schenn and I wanted to see the bigger name selected. Tolvanen and Kostin were still on the board. I see this Frost pick turning into a discussion topic like Laughton and Maatta. I'll be watching all three players Frost, Tolvanen and Kostin closely. As a Flyers fan I hope we made the correct choice.

Bill, i would like to know your thoughts on the lupul situation .He is clearly fit to play but the leafs have basically made him disappear. Lupul told steve simmonds he was fit to play last summer. Is this a new tactic any team can use to get rid of a bad contract and clear cap space ?

If it makes anybody feel better re Frost, Jeff Marek on XM mentioned that MIN was trying to trade up for him during the draft and the Flyers beat them to it.

Andrei Markov to Flyers will NOT happen. He is interested in them, they are not interested. Teams not interested in terms & $ Markov asking.

For example (and this is only an example), suppose the Flyers traded the soon-to-be 31-year-old MacDonald while retaining about $2 million of his $5 million cap hit and also moved Matt Read ($3.625 million cap hit, unrestricted free agent after the 2017-18 season). That would be $6.665 million of cap space opened up; enough to absorb a $6 million cap hit on Markov without affecting the cap management objectives for next season.

This was a good idea to create space.

If Markov is off the table, I would hope Hextall asks Vegas about swapping MacDonald for a vet like Garrison, even if the Flyers have to retain $1m and throw in a 3rd. Garrison only has one year left at $4.6m AAV/$2.5m salary.

Markov is a better player than either MacDonald or Manning.
- bmeltzer

Always liked Markov but the Habs would always lock him up before we ever got a legit chance at signing him. Yeah, I'm interested. One thing Hextall hasn't gotten done this off season is clearing out bad contracts. We'll see what he can do with the remainder of the off season, but MacDonald out and Markov in is an upgrade.

Flyers scouts unanimously were high on Frost's upside as a speedy and savvy playmaker.
- bmeltzer

Flyers scouts need to start finding savvy players who shoot the puck, put it in the back of the net or at least make good, on-net first shots that create rebounds. They need goals.

A year or two of Markov wouldnt be the worst thing ever to happen to the Flyers. Its not happening, but... it would be nice.
